Ryan Mitchell-Smith is a hard-working singer-songwriter from Wakefield, UK. Ryan is far more than a one-trick pony. His true love is blues harmonica, his passion having been stirred by his successful *blues guru* father, Pete Mitchell-Smith from a very early age. Adding to his armoury, he studied composition with acoustic and bass guitar at Derby University, whilst achieving a First Class BA honours degree in Popular Music with Music Technology. Turning on his ears, he is now a successful sound engineer and enthusiastic music teacher. Ryan also runs his own successful and well established Open-Mic night at The Hop in Wakefield every Monday night at 8:30pm.
After releasing 2 well-received efforts as solo albums, Ryan has just released his long awaited 3rd album entitled “the musician”, which is now available for download from iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and many other Digital retail outlets. The album can also be bought as a Compact Disc (follow the links).
For those who have not yet seen Ryan, his style can be described as bluesy, funky, jazzy, folky, and many others, as his influences vary a great deal. This can be seen in one of his projects, a funk outfit he fronts called shrood, who manage to pull off a mean blues version of Portisheads “Roads”. Artists Ryan has been likened to include John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and Ben Folds to name a few. As a solo artist though Ryan stands uniquely as a hard act to follow, yet he is as happy headlining as he is supporting other successful artists. With an ear for the melancholic melody, and an eye for the upbeat funk-a-thon, Ryans live shows always leave the audience wanting more... much more.
