Ryan Mitchell-Smith (34) is a Yorkshire based singer-songwriter from Wakefield, UK. He is a multi-instrumentalist, session musician, qualified music teacher, a music technician, a sound technician and an improvisational whizz kid. His true love is blues harmonica, his passion having been stirred by his successful *blues guru* father, Pete Mitchell-Smith from a very early age. Adding to his armoury, Ryan studied music composition with acoustic and bass guitar at Derby University, achieving a First Class BA honours degree in Popular Music with Music Technology. After landing his dream role as a Music technician at Ossett Academy, he now releases songs and gigs where and when he can, up and down the UK working with and supporting the likes of; Antonio Lulić, Dr Blue, Kal Lavelle, Rosie Doonan, Ben Murray, Nina Zagorski, Ruby Macintosh, Sebastopher, Steve Hopton, Scott Wainwright, Jamie Brewer, and Peculiar Blue. Ryan also runs his own successful Open-Mic night at The Hop in Wakefield every Monday night at 8:30pm.
Ryan has recently released his 3rd album entitled “the musician”, which is now available for download from iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and many other Digital retail outlets. The album can also be bought as a Compact Disc here. He has since began recording a series of singles and delving into to world of making music videos (check out the first one here!) and branching out with some brand new equipment and song ideas… a little bit of a reinvention is taking place, the result of which, will see Ryan back gigging regularly with a new set, and in another venture, doing what he does best… Playing blues harmonica.
“…as ryan leads his new band through a set of beautifully crafted pieces of music, each one tipping that aforementioned trilby in the direction of the myriad of musical influences he's grown up with. The band's core sound is the blues, but blended with many other genres, it feels so fresh and different that it could almost be said they've invented a whole new sound.” Derek Lines
